The ABCs of Fraud program was initiated by the Rotary Club of Kingston in 2007 with the support and encouragement of the Rotary Club of West Ottawa. The program utilizes a well established, effective and successful educational format that has existed across Canada since 1996. It is designed to give seniors information and techniques to protect themselves against fraud and identity theft.

Our club's Fraud Committee keeps in touch with a member of the Kingston City Police Fraud Department to keep current with the types of fraudulent activities that face the citizens of our community.  COVID-19 has driven us to create visual support (a PowerPoint) for our presentations, either in-person when allowed or on a ZOOM platform. We cover fraudulent activities that you might be exposed to either in-person, over the telephone or online. We also have prepared a trifold for each of our participants.

For more information or to arrange a presentation, email us at rotarykingston@gmail.com.

The Rotary Club of Kingston has a long history with BGC South East. In fact, our club initiated the centre in 1992. Since then, our members contributed in countless ways including sitting on the Board of Directors, fundraising, and volunteering.

Honorary Rotarian, Reg Shadbolt, compiled a thorough history of our club's involvement in a beautiful booklet entitled: The Boys & Girls Club - The First 10 Years. (download here)

Since 2015, the Community Outreach Grants Committee has invited submissions for one-time grants to fund local and innovative community projects that are primarily volunteer driven. Projects aligning with our club's goals to support initiatives that address the needs of children & youth, seniors, and/or the environment are accepted for consideration.

At this point, the grant process is annual (January-March). The committee secures funding from the Rotary Board of Directors and selects dates for the application and selection process.

RKY Camp, a summer camp located on eleven beautiful acres on the shores of Eagle Lake near Parham, Ontario, was established in 1930 through a partnership between Rotary, Kiwanis and the Kingston Family Y. Today, several Rotary Club of Kingston members volunteer their time and talents to the camp by sitting on the Board of Directors. The club also donates funds for specific capital improvements and to help subsidize camp fees for those children unable to afford the cost.

RKY Vision: Each person who attends RKY Camp will grow to feel a sense of empowerment and community within a natural, safe and wholesome environment.

RKY Mission: RKY provides high quality programming and leadership opportunities through a wide range of appropriate activities while seeking to retain the rich, historical nature of the camp and its long term viability.

Scholarships and Awards

Every year, the Registrar of Queen's University selects a student, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Kingston, for each of these awards. They must be first year students who graduated from a Kingston secondary school.

Robert Charles Wallace Bursary - This bursary was established in 1955 to honour Robert Wallace as the principal of Queen's University and also as an active member of Rotary. It is awarded to graduates of Kingston secondary schools on the basis of ability, character, and financial need.

The Marsh Laverty Award - This award was established in 1990 to honour the Reverend A. Marshall Laverty for his dedicated life of service to the greater Kingston community and as a long-standing member of the Rotary Club of Kingston. It is awarded annually to a graduate of a public or separate secondary school in the County of Frontenac who is registered in the first year of any undergraduate faculty or school of Queen's University. Selection is based on the candidate's character, leadership, intellectual promise, community involvement and financial means.

Trust Funds

Several Rotarians and friends of Rotary have left bequests in care of the Rotary Club of Kingston. The club also established the Rotary Club of Kingston Memorial Fund to receive donations. The capital is invested and only the interest is available. Annual interest on all these funds is entrusted to the standing Trust Committee, which then disperses money to those in need based on applications and verification. Many of the recipients have endured hardship because of financial strains due to disabilities. This confidential support has benefited many children and their families, and some adults as well, over the years. For more information, please contact us by email at rotarykingston@gmail.com.
